How to: Install a local plug-and-play printer.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, plug the printer cable into a port, and turn on the printer. Turn the computer on and follow the onscreen instructions, or install the printer.
1) Shut down Windows 95:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Shut down the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'.
2) Turn off the computer, and make sure the printer is off.
3) Plug the printer cable into the printer port on the computer.
NOTE: Refer to the installation instructions in the printer or computer manual.
4) Turn on the printer, and turn on the computer.
NOTE: The computer will recognize the printer and install the correct driver.
5) If the printer was not correctly detected and installed, then install the printer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Settings' and select 'Printers'. (The 'Printers' window appears.)

c) Double-click the 'Add Printer' icon. (The 'Add Printer Wizard' dialog box appears.)

d) Click 'Next'.
e) Select the 'Local printer' radio button if the printer is attached directly to the computer.
f) Click 'Next'.
g) Do one of the following:
1] Select from the list of available printers:
a] In the 'Manufacturers' list box, select the appropriate manufacturer.
b] In the 'Printers' list box, select the appropriate printer model.
2] Use the manufacturer's disk:
a] Click 'Have Disk...'. (The 'Install From Disk' dialog box appears.)

b] Type the path to the disk in the 'Copy manufacturer's files from' drop-down list box.
c] Click 'OK'.
d] If prompted, select a printer from the 'Printers' list box.
h) Click 'Next.'
i) If prompted, select the appropriate printer port from the 'Available ports' list box.

j) Click 'Next'.
k) (Optional) Type a name for the printer in the 'Printer name' box.

l) To set the printer as the default printer for Windows 95, select the 'Yes' radio button.
m) Click 'Next'.
n) Select either the 'Yes (recommended)' or the 'No' radio button to specify whether to print a test page.
o) Click 'Finish'.
p) If prompted, insert the appropriate Windows 95 diskette or CD-ROM, and click 'OK'.
q) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit the 'Printers' window.
